  1. In April 1986 Gary Kaplan, publisher of  99er/Home Computer Magazine, informed 
  2. subscribers that his company would not honor its obligations to subscribers and deliver 
  3. the number of issues paid for by long term subscriptions.  He did it this way:

  5. Customers were notified that the ôoldö magazine, Home Computer Magazine, had ceased 
  6. publication publication to be replaced with a ônewö magazine called Home Computer 
  7. Journal.  The value of the ônewö magazine was designated as $25 per issue!  Thus, one 
  8. issue of the ônewö magazine wiped out the monitary value of everybodyÆs long term 99er 
  9. subscription.

  11. Many complained to the US Post Office and the local Oregon authorities.  Only a very 
  12. few, including myself, were able to obtain a full cash refund for the unfulfilled portion of 
  13. our 99er/Home Computer Magazine subscriptions.
